Welcome to my portfolio, a.k.a Movements of a Bad Black Woman.
Here, I’m curating a collection of my personal, professional, and purposeful endeavours. This isn’t your typical portfolio; it’s a vibrant compilation of how I navigate and shape the world around me.

Hi, lovely humans, I'm Zehra.

I’m a Black-British, UK-born Nigerian. I’m queer, and identify as a gender-fluid femme (they/them pronoun preference).

I’m probably one of the most enthusiastic individuals you’ll ever meet. I’m loud for good reason; I was gifted with an ‘energy’ – it’s infectious, it’s persuasive, it’s considered and I use it to leave spaces I enter a little warmer, and filled with more compassion and care than when I arrived.

Across my work and my personal projects, I am driven fundamentally by a love for all humans and the power of community. I’m someone who’s always been obsessed with the systems that shape us – how we relate, work, survive, and seek justice – and who gets left behind.

I bring a mix of methodology, experimentation, creativity and curiosity to anything I get my hands on and love working in collaboration with others – especially those who care about impact and making a difference.

What is movements of a woman?

I call my practice Movements of a Bad Black Woman – a name that is complex and proud.

In it’s essence MBBW is all about reclamation. Taking what we think we know, unlearning it, redefining it and stepping forward with this new found energy. My ‘movements’ are both personal and collective – because I don’t believe I can ask others to shift unless I’m doing the work too.

The work of redefining seeps into the four words that make up this personal brand. Take ‘Bad’ as an example. I don’t buy into the simplicity of good and evil. Being bad can be good and vice versa. But it’s also not the typical use of the word ‘bad’ that we’ve come to enjoy either. It’s about changing the relationship of what we think is fixed, exploring it and giving new meaning.

So whether I’m delivering a change programme for a client, writing speculative fiction, or modelling for a life drawing class – MBBW is how I rehearse freedom. It’s where I say yes to imagination and work on building futures we can feel, not just theorise; in myself, with others, and in service of more liberated ways to live, work and organise.
